Designed by LEVER and Field Operations, NBCUniversal has undergone a significant renovation led by Comcast CEO Brian Roberts and NBCUniversal’s chief creative officer Donna Langley. This ambitious project is part of a long-term investment plan aimed at creating a sustainable and connected campus to serve the studio for the next century. The $1 billion upgrade includes a 350,000-square-foot office building with sweeping views of the San Gabriel Mountains and an 84,000-square-foot commons building inspired by a zoetrope. These additions include new state-of-the-art screening rooms and spaces for Universal’s numerous trophies, including their recent Best Picture Oscar for “Oppenheimer.”
The campus also features a 10,000-square-foot paseo with green spaces designed to seamlessly integrate landscape and architecture. LEVER's Found and Principal, Thomas Robinson noted that the project transforms the studio lot into a connected campus with a new central heart, fostering collaboration and strengthening NBCUniversal’s creative community. Outdoor pavilions enhance the environment, blending modern corporate amenities with traditional touches. The renovation supports both creative collaboration and the practical needs of Universal’s employees, with the campus designed to accommodate film production, marketing events, and everyday corporate activities.
The project was realized with the collaboration of House & Robertson Architects for executive architecture, Studio Shamshiri for interior design, and Hathaway Dinwiddie Construction as the general contractor.
