WoodWorks has just announced the Wood Design Awards honorees! Among them is the Adidas North American Headquarters Expansion which features two new signature mass timber buildings on their Portland campus. The addition of a new office building and athletic center on campus showcase regional mass timber which give both buildings a strong Pacific Northwest identity and sense of place.

The office building design features a unique hybrid timber structural system of precast concrete columns and beams with a first-of-its-kind timber “double tee”, consisting of 3-ply CLT panels with two glulam beams pre-assembled to the underside of the panel that spans between the precast beams. The athletic center is built directly above an existing parking garage, and the building’s all-mass timber design takes advantage of wood’s lightweight nature to create a larger structure.

The project’s innovative timber design was realized through a highly collaborative and inclusive process between the client, contractor, and all project partners. Congratulations to the team! Studio O+A, KPFF, Turner Construction, D.R. Johnson
